Fathers Arise

For Father’s day we received a powerful message by Pastor Fatima Sibanda. The teaching taught us about what it means to be a father and the responsibilities that God has placed on men to be great and honorable fathers. God has allowed fathers to share a name with Him that means He has already put in them the ability to live up to that name. Sadly many fathers are causing the name father to be associated with hurt and pain by their conduct.

The word Father has many definitions, some of which are:

Founder: A person who establishes an institution.
As founders men are the foundation on which a family is established.

Initiator: To begin or originate.
To initiate means to start something. God has chosen fathers as the ones who initiate the family’s structure. Just as God started the Genesis of mankind, God has also allowed fathers to be the Genesis of the family structure.

Originator: To take its origin or rise; begin; start; arise
Men are the originators of the family and God has trusted them to be the overseer of their homes.

Leader: A person who rules, guides, or inspires others; head
This tells us that in every man and boy there is a leader inside of, but not every man becomes a leader. This is because they do not realize who they are in God and sometimes this is due to the environment that they grew up in which does not allow them to grow up believing that they are leaders in the making.

Carer: To watch over be responsible for. Protection; charge
God has put in men the ability to look after and care for the family

Protector: a person or thing that protects; defender; guardian.

Provider: a person who supports a family or another person.
God has put in men the ability to go and get, and bring provision to the home.

Fathers have the ability to develop the attributes mentioned above and to demonstrate them in their homes and in every sphere of influence.

However if they you do not develop any of these attributes then they can become the opposite of these words. For example; the opposite of the word founder is destroyer, and the opposite of initiator is terminator. The opposite of originator is a copier or duplicator and that of leader is follower .The opposite of a protector is an enemy or antagonist. The opposite of a provider is a depriver or taker or neglector or a consumer. The opposite of a carer is one who cares less or one who is thoughtless and ignores. Fathers who do not uphold godly principles end up destroying their families. Some abuse, neglect, terrorize and care less about their families. Some leave their homes and start new families elsewhere. Some are aggressive towards their own ending up causing bitterness and hardness of hearts in their children. Sadly some young boys grow up and become like these fathers and so the cycle continues. But this is not God`s plan.

Fathers and men must wake up and realize that they have an enemy and he is real. The enemy is waging war to destroy families and to remove men from their positions of influence and to silence them. We live in a society where men are even becoming women, but this is not God’s plan. There was once a time when the name Father commanded honor and respect, it was associated with leadership, provision and authority but today there are some fathers who are being looked after by their wives and hold no authority. Being a father is a calling and an assignment from God.

In the book of Exodus 1:15-16 it reads “The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, “When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.” A decree went out to kill sons, but why the sons? This is because when you kill the sons you are killing originators, founders, initiators, and leaders. That decree is still in effect because the enemy does not want there to be defenders of the principles of God. In the story the midwives did not kill the baby boys and so Pharaoh, in verse 22, instructed “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.” That was the decree, for every son to be thrown into the river infested with crocodiles! It’s not over because even now the enemy still wants them to be cast into the river so that they may drown, be suffocated, overwhelmed and eaten! Today men are overwhelmed by many worries and are also suffocating in things like anger, lust, financial problems, relational issues, and sexuality pressures. These pressures are suffocating and suppressing their potential. If a father knows his place then the home and its city knows its place, this is why the enemy wants to throw them into the river and be drowned. But God’s plan is for fathers to be above the water and not beneath it.

Another method the enemy is using to suffocate fathers is to remove their spirituality. Some men leave the spiritual aspects to the wife instead of being the priest of the household. It is always her who must initiate prayers and bible study or to say lets go to church. This causes men to be displaced and gives Satan room to rule and do what he wants. It is important for fathers to rise from whatever river they are in, so that they can be the godly leaders that God intended them to be.

Matthew 2:16-18 tells of how Herod gave an order for all the boys in Bethlehem under the age of two to be killed. What was his problem? His problem was influence and his throne being threatened. With Jesus being only a baby, it would have taken Him years to be king so then why was Herod so ruthless. This was more than Jesus because he was wiping out a whole generation of men so that they will not become what God destined them to be. Kill means to abolish, to abolish the influence of a man that they may not be godly and influential in the home or in the church. There are more women than men in the church but we need guidance and protection from men around us for the place to be safe.

It is important for men not to take being a man and a father lightly because there is a destiny and greatness in them but they won’t reach that great place spectating from a distance or if they don’t embrace the principles of God and take the frontlines in their homes and in the house of the Lord.

Even in those days where Satan’s plan was to stop the men from taking spiritual leadership and serving in the house of the Lord, God still made a way. The boy Moses was kept while others where drowning. Men , choose to be a Moses so that while other men are being drowned by certain things and staying passive, you will not be one of them. You will be in the basket because God has a strategy to save your life just as He did for Moses and the baby Jesus. While the world is campaigning to destroy men and fathers, you could be the remnant, a custodian of the faith, a pillar in the church, and a great husband and leader to your family.

My message for men is to rise up and take your place as a man and a father. Make the decision to be different. Choose to be a founder, initiator, leader, originator, provider carer and protector. You do not have any other option but to embrace the call to godly manhood and fatherhood.

Fathers and mighty men ARISE!
